Description
Notre-Dame Cathedral is a fine example of Provençal Romanesque art, defined by its simplicity of plan, harmonious volumes, pared-down decoration, perfect stonework and, above all, by the many references to ancient architecture that characterize this type of monument in Provence.
Classified as a Monument Historique by Prosper Mérimée in 1841, the building underwent extensive restoration in the 19th century, but remains one of the finest examples of medieval art in the region.
