The oldest surviving religious monument in Pierrelatte.
Description
It was built in the 12th century on land that was the former cemetery until 1846, first as a cemetery chapel and then as a parish church on several occasions. Its roof has always been visible from the inside, as it was never vaulted.
It was used as a meeting room for a brotherhood of Pénitents Blancs, as well as for other societies such as the Dames de la Miséricorde and the Dames de la Charité. From 1791 to 1793, the church was closed to worship, and the cross and bell tower were ordered to be torn down, although the latter remained in place. Having become national property, it deteriorated and was abandoned by the penitents in the 19th century.
It was bought back and restored in 1960 by the municipality, and is now used for shows and events.
