« Pointy Rock » for some, « Cut Rock » for others, the quaint little village of Rochegude provides visitors with peaceful tranquillity, set beneath the agnificent bell tower of its church, pointing its majestic arrow to the blue sky. Nestled around the castle perched on a rocky peak, the village houses turn away from the prevailing « Mistral » wind. A perfect stop to enjoy on the walking trail Via grippa between Orange and Vaison la Romaine. The village overlooks vast rolling ineyards, grown here since Roman times. Enjoy the panoramic views of stunning
landscapes !
Description
Climb up to the castle, transformed several times over the centuries, and as you wander through the narrow streets, don't miss the old wash-house and the magnificent fountain with its hexagonal basin.
At the foot of the village, stop off at the 12th-century chapel of Saint-Denis, one of the oldest in the region, with its surrounding cemetery.
Not far away, overlooking the village, the statue of the Virgin Mary, placed on the stone dome of an old oil mill, watches over and protects the houses with roofs ranging from soft pink to ochre.
